TOP QUESTIONS
WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Reflexology is a science that is based around the principal that “there are reflex points on the feet that correspond to every organ, gland and part of the body” (IIR). It is referenced through history as far back as 4000BC in China. It was through the work of Eunice Ingham that the therapy became more prominent and has its modern day format. She stated that “stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way, just like preventative maintenance” (Eunice Ingham).
WHAT WILL MY FIRST SESSION BE LIKE?
We will spend some time working through a series of questions about your lifestyle and current and past medical issues. We will talk about what you want to achieve through the sessions, and I will advise how many sessions you may need and what maintenance program may be required. We will then start the reflexology session, where you will lie back on a reclining chair, or therapy bed, and your feet will be put on a pillow for your comfort. I will then start working your feet with various movements including thumb and finger walking. Don't worry about your feet being ticklish as there is quite firm pressure. As you relax, your body temperature may fall so I have blankets you can use to keep yourself warm and snug. I will play some relaxing music to help create a calm atmosphere. If you like a chat then you are free to natter as I work, but if you prefer to be quiet (or even fall asleep!) then you are more than welcome to 'disappear' and fully relax. At the end I will gently massage your feet with moisturiser, and once your treatment is complete I will advise you on any aftercare that may be required.
DO YOU TREAT PATIENTS WITH SEVERE HEALTH PROBLEMS?
Reflexology can be used with many severe conditions and is a successful complementary practice to go alongside modern medicine. It encourages improvements in blood flow and nerve impulses, allowing the body to normalise and promote healing.
If you are at all worried about its impacts please contact me to discuss your concerns and, of course, consult your doctor or consultant.
